The map has been made to do the promotion of the French airline TAI. The map presents the airline's routes around the globe and features several nice insets showinf different forms of travel by air and by boat, with several comical scenes of explorers and animals. On the top, different representations of planes, and on the bottom, different representations of boats. Tai routes are written in red. The map has been printed by Henri Baille in Paris, in limited print of 500 exemplars.
This map is the first representation of the TAI airlines, around 1950. The TAI's routes were Paris-Tunis- Damascus- Karachi- Bangkok-Saigon-Hanoi- Paris - Algiers- Fort Lamy (N'Djamena)- Douala-Brazzaville- Tananarive- Paris- Casablanca- Bamako-Abidjan- Paris -Casablanca- Bamako-Dakar. There is another representation around 1957, with different routes.Luc-Marie Bayle was an French naval officer, painter and artist. He was appointed Peintre de la Marine in 1944.
