By John Lodge Cowley Engraved by Emanuel Bowen and published London 1753 by Thomas Cox and James Hodges in. "A New and Easy Introduction to the study of Geography by way of Question and Answer".An original 18th century copper engraved antique map of The World in hemispheres, enhanced with later hand colouring. The east coast of North America is marked as British Plantations and California is depicted as an island. Australia (New Holland) has only the western half charted and is contiguous with New Guinea. Tasmania (Diemens Land) is disconnected from the rest of the continent and New Zealand is shown with only a stretch of eastern coastline. A fine example of this very scarce and interesting map. Cowley translated the book into English from high Dutch and added a set of interesting maps to illustrate the work.
