It was published for Barent Langene's. This is a first state of the map and was published in 1598 in Amsterdam. This is a scarce map of the world. It does take some influence from Abraham Ortelius's world map in. Hondius's map adds new notations in North and South America including California and Virginia.

New Guinea is shown undefined on this map. The southern continent, Terra Australis nondum cognita, is present on the map as well. He helped establish Amsterdam as the epicenter of mapmaking in the 1600s.
